Under 12 Match Report Sunday October 24th 2004 Hatfield 0 - Luton Town Belles 7 Unfortunately no action pictures today as our roving photographer was unavailable The home team would have been buoyant after a tremendous come back against Potters Bar last Sunday when they came from 3-0 down to win 4-3 in what must be the comeback of the season so far. So despite their lowly position in the league we got the feeling that they would be really up for this. Having won the toss we decided to play up the slope in the first half. And the for the first fifteen minutes we were camped in their half, but without being able to put the ball in the net. That was mainly due to the Hatfield keeper who made several good saves, and some wasted chances on our part. Then after seventeen minutes a goal at last. We had been getting in some decent crosses in from the right hand side, and this time Alicia McIntosh drove in a low cross into the path of Serena Lawrence who just passed the ball low into the net from twelve yards. It was good to see that at last we were using the width of the pitch well, and two minutes later some good work by Desiree Yearwood down the left flank set up a chance for Katie Davis who scored with a cross shot from the left edge of the penalty area. For all our possesion and chances it looked as though it would only be 2-0 at the break. But just on the half time whistle Kate Harte played a through ball for Serena Lawrence who again hit a low shot into the bottom corner It was hoped that we could at least double our score in the second half and when after just three minutes we added a fourth goal it looked on. Following a corner the ball was half cleared. But it fell invitingly for Kate Harte, who hit what is becoming something of a trade mark block buster into the roof of the net from the edge of the penalty area. Then followed twenty minutes of shear frustration. Shots rained in, crosses were delivered, but we just could not score. Indeed Hatfield even managed to get forward on a couple of occasions. Then with eight minutes left we did score again. Desiree Yearwood was first to the ball following a Hatfield goal kick, she controled the ball well before slipping a through ball for Leanne Lizaitis. She skipped past two defenders before placing the ball into the bottom corner from just inside the area. Straight from the re start we won the ball back, and Katie Davis burst forward and unleashed rocket shot from twenty five yards. Unluckily for her it smacked against the crossbar, but Alicia McIntosh was first to react and knocked in the rebound. Again from the re start we won the ball back quickly. The ball was worked down the right, and eventually Alicia McIntosh crossed the ball low across the goalmouth and Clare Howe was on hand to sweep the ball into the net from close range. Three goals in as many minutes, put the gloss on what was a good performance. But we must be a little more lethal in front of goal, and if that happens, then somebody will be on the end of a real hammering. Team Today, Thea Fraser, Alice Bowler, Megan Willmott, Serena Lawrence, Kate Harte, Bethany Smith, Alicia McIntosh, Leanne Lizaitis, Katie Davis, Clare Howe, Desiree Yearwood On significant result today was St. Albans 3 - Harpenden 1. That result means that we are now six points clear at the top of the league table |
