Under 12 Match Report

Sunday September 19th 2004

Hemel Hempstead Town 0 - Luton Town Belles 16

Football is a firstly a team game, that must always be understood. But from time to time individual achievements must be recognised as well. So we must congratulate Katie Davis who today equalled a club record by scoring nine goals in a single game. But she could not have done that without having a team around her that played their part.

Clare Howe`s shot nestles in the net for the second goal
3-0 Katie Davis scores the first of her nine from the penalty spot
The Hemel keeper is beaten again as Katie scores the fourth goal
Leanne Lizaitis puts the Hemel keeper under pressure in the second half
Katie Davis turns away after scoring during the second half
Amy Garrett takes the ball past a defender
Clare Howe shoots across the goal....................
..........and the ball is in the net for her fourth and The Belles thirteenth goal

Upon arrival at Hemel Hempstead Town FC one could not have failed to be impressed with the excellent standard of the playing surface. However one must doubt the wisdom of playing Under 12 football on such a big pitch. However we just had to get on with it. It is very difficult to write a report on such a one sided game. But here is a timeline on all the goals as they went in

1-0 3 minutes A cross by Leanne Lizaitis is met by Clare Howe who scores with a first time shot on the far post
2-0 5 minutes Clare scores with a low shot from ten yards
3-0 8 minutes. Another good run down the right by Leanne is ended when she is tripped by a defender inside the penalty area. The referee gives a penalty. Katie Davis makes no mistake from the penalty spot
4-0 14 minutes Amber McKenna plays a through ball down the left channel for Katie . She runs onto the ball and shoots low and hard into the bottom corner.
5-0 17 minutes. Almost a carbon copy. Amber sets up Katie again. The result, the same
6-0 19 minutes. This time it is Serena Lawrence who`s through pass sets Katie through on goal, and she finished with another low driven shot
7-0 27 minutes. This time a solo effort as Katie eludes several tackles on a mazy run starting from outside the penalty area.
Half time 7-0
8-0 32 minutes. Amber is provider again as her pass sets Leanne through one on with the keeper. The outcome was inevitable
9-0 37 minutes. Katie squeezes the ball in from a narrow angle
10-0 44 minutes. Clare scores with a solo effort
11-0 46 minutes Leanne scores following a poor clearence by the Hemel keeper
12-0 50 minutes.Another goal by Katie
13-0 52 minutes Amy Garrett crosses from the right, and Clare scores with a first time shot
14-0 54 minutes Katie again
15-0 57 minutes Katie again (equals the club record)
16-0 60 minutes Clare plays the ball into the penalty area to Megan Willmott. Megan controls the ball with her back to the goal. With a quick turn and shot the ball is in the net at the blink of an eye. A good goal to round things off
Full time 16-0

One cannot learn too much from this sort of game which is unfortunate in many ways. However you can only play what is put out in front of you. We did play some good football at times, but the most pleasing thing was that we kept our discipline and general shape very well. That is not always easy in these sort of matches. There will be harder days ahead, that is for sure, and that is when it will be important to keep our shape and discipline. Well done everybody

Squad today, Thea Fraser; Laura Pethybridge, Bethany Smith, Kate Harte, Megan Willmott; Desiree Yearwood, Serena Lawrence, Leanne Lizaitis, Amy Garrett; Amy Garrett, Katie Davis; Alice Bowler, Amber McKenna
