Managers Verdict

We expected a tough game today, and Q.P.R. certainly made sure we not dissapointed as far as that was concerned. The biggest dissapointment for me was the final score. They were possibly just a bit better on the day, but 4-0, if they were to be quite honest the scoreline would have flattered them a bit. We set our stool out to be a little bit more defensive minded than usual, but without wanting to show them too much respect, but with their phenomenal scoring record, we had to be perhaps a little cautious. One of most pleasing things at least in the first half was the well disciplined performance of the back four, and inparticular Serena who was outstanding in the holding role in front of the back four. With this set up Katie was often left isolated as the lone striker, but she worked hard and created several chances for herself. But when the support from midfield got forward quick enough we did cause them some problems, but just could apply the finishing touch. We could have kept it the same way and more than likely contained them in the second half, but it was decided to "go for it", which is not my normal way of doing things in these situations. Anybody who knows me of old will know of my normal defensive instincts. But I do not think it was against my better judgement to do this today and and given the opportunity to re run today again I would still do it again. So it opened the game up somewhat more but we still created chances, but unfortunately they found more room and they took advantage or their opportunities, and really that was the main difference. The difference between playing in Division 1 and Division 2 was there for all to see. They are used to having to step things up, and we are not, but today we had to, and in truth we were not that far off in matching them as I already have said. There was no doubt that there were some tired limbs out there today at the end, but that showed just how much effort we had put in. If we can carry this sort of performance into the second half of the league season then we should not go too far wrong. However next week is League Cup again, and with St. Albans City losing 2-0 against Watford today it does make next Sunday`s match against City almost sudden death. Neither team can afford to lose, and I should think a draw will not help anybody either. But being our closest rivals in the league it is also physiologically very important to win this match and get that advantage over them.

Squad today, Thea Fraser, Laura Pethybridge, Megan Willmott, Serena Lawrence, Kate Harte, Bethany Smith, Desiree Yearwood, Leanne Lizaitis, Katie Davis, Clare Howe, Amy Garrett ; Alex Matcham, Amber McKenna, Alice Bowler, Lauren Dunn
