Under 12 Match Report Sunday October 3rd 2004 Luton Town Belles 2 - St. Albans City 0
Following on from last weeks performance, another very tough game tested the Belles against probably their hardest opponents to date. Good work from Leanne, Katie and Serena early on, pushed back St. Albans several times and had them defending in numbers. Some neat dribbling into the box by Desiree ended with a good shot from Amy being deflected for a corner. St. A!bans then had a good ten minutes of pressure resulting in two on on ones with the opposing strikers both losing out to great goalkeeping by Thea who first blocked with her legs and then made a fine save at the forwards feet. Mid way through the half a great run by Alicia from the half way line saw her initial shot blocked between the keeper and defender but as the ball ran loose Leanne latched onto it and rolled the ball into an empty net. The goal settled Luton although St Albans still did their fair share of attacking. Some fine defending by Beth. Laura, Kate and Megan kept them at bay. The second halt saw the Belles gain a hold of the game with Kate and Amber working hard in midfield and Ashley and Clare causing problems to the visitors defence. The second goal came afler twenty minutes when Leanne collected the ball on the half way line. Her pass found Ashley, whose quick pass to Clare on the right of the penalty box was superbly struck under the keeper into the net. St. Albans still managed to push forward and again, only great defending from Beth, Alice, Alex, and Megan, stopped the visitors from grabbing a goal. Thea also made a superb point blank save during this period of pressure. On reflection, fine performances from Beth who played some fine football out of defence, Desiree who worked tirelessly in midfield, and Thea who made some great saves at crucial times just outshone the rest of the team who played tremendously. Luton showed what a capab!e side they are against an excellent St. Albans team who will win more games than they lose and will possibly be close to winning the league at the end of the season. Weli done again girls. "And a special thank you to Martin for looking after the team for two weeks while I was away on holiday" (Mick) |
