With probably the most important game of the
season for the Oranges and Tangerines, they were both well
up for it and showed that from the first whistle.
Straight away the Belles were on the attack, with their two
touch passing
and spreading the ball wide, but some good defending from
the Tangerines kept the game to a nil.
Both teams had their chances, there was a great battle in
midfield between Kirsty, Robyn W and Danielle C for the Oranges,
and Alice, Kerry Lynsi.
The tangerine's keeper Amber did well to defeat efforts from
Yasmin Hickling to keep the Tangerine's chances alive.
With about twenty minutes gone, Lynsi from the Tangerines
ran through a
series of players, towards goal, when Sian Hall and Robyn
Britten combined well to keep the ball out of the net.
Shortly after this, the Oranges hit the Tangerines
on the break, and the
ball fell to Yasmin Hickling who took it in her stride and
coolly finished
to make the score 1-0.
With some changes at half time for both teams,
the game got even more
competitive, especially between sisters Kirsty and Alicia!
Each team had
their chances, but Lozza Bilston and Kelly Moss defended well
for the
Oranges.
The good defending and battling for a clean sheet carried
on throughout the whole second half, and with aboutfive minutes
to go, their hard work paid off.
The ball fell to Kelly Moss who struck her shot from about
15 yards and
it rolled into the bottom corner to secure the game for the
Oranges.
The tangerines still kept the pressure on during the last
five minutes, but
the Oranges held on and the final score was 2-0.
It was a great match with lots of friendly rivalry and a good
display of
football, well done to both teams.
