The U 15s started their final league game knowing that victory would mean that they would complete the season undefeated and winning 3 titles, U15 league, U15 league cup and the County Cup.
Luton kicked of and set the pace and went 2-0 up with in 4 minutes, both goals scored by top scorer Steph. Candice played a part in both. For the first her run and cross left Steph with an easy tap in. For the second she ran across the path of Steph`s shot which completely distracted the keeper.
Further goals followed from both Nicola (2) the first of which was a header from Clare`s corner and Clare scored following a great build up involving Candice and Steph to give Luton a 5-0 lead at the break.

HT 0-5

The second period started much the same as the first, with Nicola completing her hat-trick with in a minute of the restart to make it 6-0. With the pressure off the girls were enjoying themselves and playing in a relaxed style. Relaxed, whoops, with some 15 minutes left a defensive ‘blip’ let in Watford to score what was to be a consolation goal.
Luton was playing with a lot of flair and passion throughout the game so it was no surprise that another 2 goals followed in the closing minutes of the game. Nicola scored what was to be her 4th and Steph hit number 8 to complete her hat-trick.

FT 1-8.

Player of the Game today was Candice (For all her endeavour she was unlucky not to score today. Infact she did everything but score)

First of all, on behalf of the team a big thanks to the Ladies 1st Team and others from LTLFC who worked through the day to ensure the whole event was very well run. The whole occasion reflects well on the League and the sporting behaviour of the supporters and players of all the competing Clubs made it a great day for Girls football.

The U15s were going for a unique achievement of the treble and although many thought Watford's League position mean't it would be a formality, but the girls were under no illusions.

As expected the local rivalry saw the first 25 minutes played out with a 0 - 0 scoreline. Whilst fair to say more of the play was in Watfords half they defended well and Luton had only a few scoring opportunities. Watford had a real chance with a long-range free kick but Steph collected well.

Then Luton prised open the door - on 25 min Helen won a ball in midfield and played it out left where Robyn and Clare exchanged passes before Clare's long range shot curled into the far right corner. Then within minutes Candice put Clare in to score a near identical goal (she reckons the 2nd got more bend). 25 minutes and 2 - 0 up.

On 33 minutes Jade and Nicola won a midfield battle to move the ball up the pitch - eventually playing the ball through to Leyah to score. A consistent scorer, nearly a goal a game and the only player to score in both Finals.

Then Leyah became the provider, chasing down a ball and crossing for Clare to run in and convert at close range for her hat trick (Dave - she keeps whinging about a signed match ball!). Half time 4 - 0 so pressure off a little.

Watford started the 2nd half with great determination and their keeper,Chelcie pulled out some top class saves. Leanne, Candice and Steph must have wondered what they needed to do to score. In fact the forward line all missed getting on the score sheet today and with their scoring record that's a terrific reflection on the Watford keeper's performance.

Unfortunately, on 14 minutes some good passing movement saw Robyn through on goal and on this occasion the keeper was unable to save the shot. 5 - 0.

The score line maybe made everyone relax and to be fair we did make a lot of changes in the closing 10 minutes. To their credit Watford fought to the end and in the last 5 minutes racked up two goals.

Overall, the game was well contested and both sets of players gave 100%. At last year's Final we experienced the taste of defeat so there was some sympathy for Paul's players but also that made the win a bit more special for our players. Maybe Watford will go the extra place in 2009?

The whole squad played today - Tia, Steph, Helen, Kate, Lozza, Dunny, Robyn,Nicola, Serena, Jade, Clare, Steph, Candice (with her Watford shirt on underneath!!), Leanne (Captain)and Leyah.

As always, thanks to all our supporters - and all the Hatters - for their support. Thanks to Mark for the great pics. Also, Mick for the fizzy stuff and his lucky flag.

League Match
Hitchin Town 0 - Luton Town Ladies 1

Luton went into today’s game at Ickleford knowing that a victory would be enough to claim the title.
The game itself proved how unpredictable football can be. Luton started the game tentatively and was matched by a Hitchin side that had improved towards the end of the season. The majority of the play was in midfield with little goalmouth action either end when on 25 minutes Luton broke down the left ending with Candice unleashing a powerful shot which the Hitchin goalkeeper saved but could only parry the ball out into the path of Stephanie Anes who some how managed to lob the ball over the goalkeeper and into the net. Luton settled and started to play with some purpose now and in one flowing attack saw Clare fouled what looked to be a certain penalty, but no ref waved play on but then stopped play to what looked like he wanted to talk Clare. He then produced the Red Card and sent Clare off for her apparent over zealous demonstration over the incident. Luton saw out the remainder of the half keeping their goal intact.

HT 0-1

The line up changed to 3-5-1 in the second half to enable Luton to keep the play tight and protect their lead. Defensively Luton looked strong and kept the home side limited to just one shot for the whole of the second half and at times in this half they looked more likely team to score despite being down to 10 men. Then a twist in the game, Luton down to 9 girls for a period, as injuries to Striker Steph and goalkeeper Steph saw both players having to leave the field.
An ambulance was called for Stephanie Anes as her ankle injury was giving concern. Tia came on in goal despite her back being painful form the previous day and demonstrated her improved ability and confidence to see Luton keep another clean sheet and enable her team to hold on to their slender lead.
Another ground out victory against a side that pushed Luton all the way.

FT 0-1 and League Champions

Good news: re Stephanie Anes
Hospital x-ray showed no broken bones only badly bruised around her ankle.
