From the start of the 2001/02 season we fielded a ladies team for the first time. The team is made up mainly of the girls who have come through the youth system. They played under the name of Luton Town Belles. This is a part of our link with Luton Town. All their playing kit has been sponsored by Luton Town`s main sponsor SKF. Hopefully this will be a long and fruitful link up with our local professional club. The ladies team competed in The Southern Region League (Division 1 North) and finished a creditable third and reached two cup semi finals. They also took part in the Womens FA Cup and came through the qualifying rounds before being beaten in the first round proper.
2001/02 was also a year when we incresed our pressence in The Hertfordshire Girls League with our Under 10 and Under 13 teams. Both ended the season as runners up in the league, and the Under 10`s were also beaten finalists in the their cup competition.. The Bedfordshire League was resurrected under the banner of The CJS League and our Under 12 team played in that competition and they too finished runners up in the league, but they did win the league cup winning the final with an emphatic 5-0 win against the league champions Sundon Park. We bid farwell to the Milton Keynes Girls League with mixed feelings. Dissapointed that the league programme was never completed, but more than pleased when we won the cup competitions at Under 13, 14 and 16. Every year we say the same thing, what will happen next in the world of female football as it continues to grow. Figures produced by the F.A.have shown that football has now outstripped netball in terms of girls participation, and that news as far as we, and indeed all those that are involved in girls and women's football is absolutely fantastic

We have been very successful on the field of play during our short history and this has led to further awards to recognise this. In March 2002 at The Luton Sports Council Sports Awards our Under 15 squad (2000/01) were rewarded with being elected as Young Sports Team Of The Year. The evening was capped with the announcement that AFC Luton Belles had also won The Sports Club Of The Year Award. This is an award that we feel has been earnt by everybody involved in the club, both on the field of play and off it too.

Although she has now left the club for pastures new, it is worth mentioning that Nicole Emmanuel is now a part of the 2002 England Under 17 squad. We wish her well for the future and feel sure that she will fulfill her full potential in the game
