This was in many ways our most
successful season so far, both on and off the field.
For the second year in a row we were voted as Sports
Club Of The Year by The Luton Sports Council. That is
a tribute to everybody involved with the club, and underlines
all the work we have done in the community, and our
success on the field of play. We entered teams in The
Hertfordshire Girls League at Under 11, Under 13 and
Under 14. We had teams at Under 12 and Under 14 in The
Bedfordshire League (CJS) and the ladies in The Southern
Region League. This season we won three League Championships,
plus three League Cup Competitions. Leading the way
was the Under 11`s, arguably our best ever team pound
for pound. They lost just one match in securing The
Hertfordshire Girls League Under 11 Championship. The
standard of football in this league was very high, which
made their record all the more creditable. They won
the League Cup too with a 5-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur
in the final, and finished the season by winning The
Chairman's Cup, beating Stevenage Borough 1-0 in the
final. This remarkable team kept fourteen consecutive
clean sheets at the end of the season, a club record
which may stand for ever.
The Under 12`s also won a League
and Cup Double. Not only that they achieved this with
a one hundred per cent record. Although most of the
opposition was not of the highest quality, it was still
quite an achievement. The Under 13`s were a new team,
most of which were playing an age group up. They exceeded
all expectations by finishing fourth in the league and
amassed over 100 goals in the process. The Under 14`s
(Bedfordshire League squad) got off to a terrible start,
losing three of their first four matches. However they
recovered well after that and eventually finished runners
up in the league, and also were beaten finalists in
the League Cup. The Under 14 (Hertfordshire League squad)
went one better than their position as runners up in
2001/02 by winning the Championship this time around.
This too was a very competitive league which made it
all the more creditable that the Championship was clinched
following a 4-1 win over Denham United with a one hundred
per cent record still in tact. However the season ended
with a little bit of an anti climax as two of the last
three matches were lost. But by then it did not matter
too much, it was only their pride that was hurt a little.
